Construction Quality

Considering that First Degree have said that the Viking Fluid Rower can be used for commercial use, albeit lightly, it’s clear that this is one well constructed rowing machine.

The wood laminates and solid beech have been sourced from Scandinavian forests, and the tank shells have been manufactured from polycarbonate, complete with a triple-bladed stainless steel impeller. Or in other words, this rower should last you for many years to come, even with plenty of use and abuse.

First Degree Fitness Viking Fluid Rower Resistance

The First Degree Fitness Viking Fluid Rower is able to provide users with such a lifelike rowing experience, thanks to incorporating a water based resistance system instead of a magnetic based system into its design. Therefore, as you row, it really does sound and feel as if you are rowing on the water rather than indoors.

The level of resistance is determined by how much water is in the tank, with a greater volume of water leading to a more challenging workout, and vice versa. Therefore, whether you’re out of shape and are new to the world of rowing, or have the body of a Greek god, you’ll be able to find a level of resistance that is challenging enough and in line with your fitness goals.

If I was paying over $1,000 for a rowing machine, then I would certainly expect it to meet my expectations when it comes to a comfortable rowing experience. Fortunately, the Viking Rower has succeeded in this aspect, as the seat glides along the anodized aluminum seat rail very smoothly and quietly.

Furthermore, the handle has been ergonomically designed in order to minimize any strain felt on the wrists, forearms and hands; and the footplates, while being oversized, also feature adjustable straps to ensure that you can get into a comfortable rowing position.

Computer Monitor

The computer monitor on the First Degree Fitness Viking Fluid Rower tracks some very important information, including time, distance, calories burned per hour, 500M split time, strokes per minute, in addition to watts, your heart rate, and interval training. The only thing you need to know about the computer monitor is that it is very accurate and easy to read, thanks to the font being oversized.

The Viking Fluid Rower is very easy to store, due to its ability to stored upright.

This rower is backed by a 5-year frame, 3-year non-wearing mechanical parts, and 2-year wearing mechanical parts warranty. There is a 1-year warranty for commercial use.

First Degree Fitness Viking Fluid Rower User Reviews

As the Viking Fluid Rower is relatively new, there isn’t much information about it online. However, according to one user, the rower feels very well-constructed and is likely to last for many years to come, purely based on the quality of the parts, and he also appreciates the ease of the assembly process. According to him he “highly recommends” the Viking.

Any Complaints?

There is very little to complain about. If we were being fussy then we would say that it’s a bit annoying that you are required to purchase a heart rate receiver if you want to measure your pulse, as the Viking Rower, just like the First Degree Fitness Newport Rower, does not come equipped with a built-in heart rate monitor.

Anything Else You Should Know?

There’s nothing else to add. The Viking Rower is clearly a very well constructed machine, particularly as it can be used for commercial use. It is comfortable, offers a very true, lifelike rowing experience, and should provide enough of a challenge for even the fittest of individuals. While it’s a bit of a shame that a built-in heart rate monitor has not been included into the rower’s design, you shouldn’t let this put you off what is otherwise an excellent piece of exercise equipment
