First Degree Fitness Newport Rower Review
The First Degree Fitness Newport Rower continues the company’s trend of releasing high quality, lifelike rowers at affordable prices, take the First Degree Fitness Trident, for example. The Newport is very well-constructed, features a highly functional computer monitor, utilizes fluid resistance technology to deliver a smooth rowing motion, and is comfortable to use.
The Newport Rower is certainly a very well-constructed rower and is therefore likely to last for many years to come. Take the tank, for example, which is made of tough polycarbonate shell with a triple-bladed stainless steel paddle. Or the seat rail, which is made of high anodized aluminum, something that is typically reserved for high-end rowers.
The highest rated rowing machines on the market utilize a water tank to deliver the most lifelike rowing motion, which explains their popularity with college rowers or people who used to row in their youth, and the First Degree Fitness Newport Rower is no exception.
The tank can hold anywhere between 9 to 17 liters of water (adjust the water valve control to automatically transfer water from the inner tank to the outer tank in order to create more or less resistance) and due to its water based resistance system it accurately mimics not only the feel of rowing on the water but also the sound.
To go into a bit more detail, this is because the Newport uses a triple bladed impeller system that offers instant catch, making the pull strong and consistent throughout the rowing stroke from start to finish.
The computer monitor displays all the information that rowers are typically looking for when they row, including time, distance, 500m split time, strokes per minute, watts, interval training and calories burned. All of these stats are recorded to a high degree of accuracy. Our one complaint, though, is that a heart rate reception is sold separately.
The most important comfort aspect of any rower is its seat rail. Thankfully, First Degree have got it right with the Newport. The custom extruded, anodized seat rail runs on precision bearings and rollers, ensuring that it glides smoothly. The seat being well-padded is also a plus as well.

There is very little to complain about, although it would’ve been nice if you were able to record your pulse without having to purchase anything extra.
Anything Else You Should Know?
