The Bayou Fitness Total Trainer 4000-XL completely eliminates the need to use free weights, as it uses your own body weight for resistance training, allowing you to strengthen and tone your muscles, all whilst improving your flexibility.
Virtually ready to use right out of the box, the Total Trainer offers 11 levels of resistance, 14 custom workouts, and you can even adjust the percentage of your boy weight lifted, from 4% to 69%.
While some home gyms can take hours to assemble, the 4000-XL takes no more than 5 minutes, as the machine is as good as ready to use right out of the box, allowing you to start working out as soon as possible.
The Bayou Fitness Total Trainer 4000-XL comes with a generous number of resistance levels to choose from. There are 11 in total (the typical number is just 6), which should certainly provide enough of a challenge for even the strongest, most muscular of individuals. It is also possible to adjust the percentage of body weight lifted, from 4% to 69%, by simply moving the incline up or down. This adds a whole new dimension to your work out – mixing things up and keeping your workout interesting, all whilst you continue to be challenged.
There are 14 custom programs to choose from, ranging from warm-up to cool-down and everything in between, such as Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Programs, as well as Total Body Circuit, Hip, Thigh & Buttocks, Lower Back, Abdominal, and Express Circuit Programs, to name just a few.
Attachments & Accessories
The 4000-XL comes equipped with a range of attachments and accessories. The Biceps Curl Press Bar, allows you to work out your biceps, of course, but the bar is also interchangeable with the conventional twin handle system for improved versatility.
The Power Weight Bar is ideal if you want to increase the level of resistance whilst performing exercises, as you can add standard free weights to the Total Trainer.
The Pull-Up/Push-Up Bar gives you the opportunity to perform a number of exercises, including push-ups, behind neck press, shoulder press, chin-ups, and pull-ups.
Previous home gyms released by Bayou Fitness suffered from a rather annoying issue with the sit-up cuff strap: it wasn’t long enough. Fortunately, all this has changed with the 4000-XL, as the cuff strap has been lengthened to accommodate users with larger feet.
Finally, if you want to work out your lower body and perform exercises such as calf raises, leg squats, and so on, then you can use the Heavy-Duty Squat Board.
While the Bayou Fitness Total Trainer 4000-XL is on the light side for a home gym, weighing just 97 pounds, anything that heavy is always going to be hard to move. However, thanks to the inclusion of wheels on the bottom of the machine, it easily rolls for storage. Furthermore, the machine can also be folded.
The 4000-XL is backed by a lifetime rollers, rope and pulleys warranty, and a 1-year warranty on parts.

20 x 50 x 14 inches (folded)
14 x 46 inches (glide board)
Bayou Fitness Total Trainer 4000-XL User Reviews
The reviews for the Total Trainer have been very good. First off, users have praised the machine’s assembly, as it is ready to use right out of the box.
However, more importantly, many think that the 4000-XL offers excellent value for money, as it is a “bit larger than other brands at this price point,” as one user puts it, and comes equipped with a few features “available from other brands only on their much more expensive models”, such as the Power Weight Bar, another user states. Another user feels that “it is a much better machine than the base models other companies offer at this price point”
Other users have praised the Total Trainer’s build quality, its ability to be folded and rolled, as well as the fact that is supports even the tallest of users – “I’m 6’4″ and fit on it easily,” according to one user.
While users have had very little to complain about, there have been reports of the rollers breaking, although Bayou Fitness “immediately sent a set of 4 rollers free of charge,” to one user who experienced this problem. However, on the other end of the spectrum, the company would not replace a defective glide board, free of charge.

It’s not unheard of for the rollers to break after having owned and used the 4000-XL for some time, although this is something that is common to the majority of home gyms. It’s also good to know that Bayou Fitness offer a lifetime warranty on rollers (in addition to pulleys and rope) and ship out the parts very quickly.
Anything Else You Should Know?
The maximum user weight capacity of the Total Trainer is a hefty 385 pounds and the maximum user height is 6′ 7″. An instructional DVD and 4 exercise cards that allow you to personalize and track your training program have also been included. It’s also worth noting that the glide board, which measures 14 x 46 inches, is now longer than ever before, to provide users with a more comfortable workout experience with your feet on the cushion. This also explains the greater than usual maximum user height that is supported.
The only other thing you should know is that the Bayou Fitness Total Trainer 4000-XL offers excellent value for money, can be used by even the tallest of individuals, and provides a comfortable, safe and effective workout experience. While Bayou Fitness’ customer service is a bit hit and miss, it’s unlikely that you will run into many problems over the years, considering that the 4000-XL is such a well-constructed machine (with the exception of the rollers), anyway.
